I have a 1997 Bayliner 338. Put in water, when driving to dock, son advised no response on steering on fly bridge. Wheel spun no end. Checked and found reservoir (not sure how full) pressure showed 10 lbs. Cabin helm worked by the way. Son deed air ( to 30 ) said steering but better but not right.

does the system use oil of A/F as the medium? When was fluid added last or checked last? What is the air pressure spec on your system?

Sorry for the wrong info. The system is made by Hynautic .uses hynautic steering oil or light viscosity hydraulic oil. States maintain 25 to 39 PSI.

Usually the issue is low oil, or low air pressure. If the oil or the air goes away, you loose the upper helm First.
The system can be bled out and work just fine, but if it has a leak it will need to be fixed First.
Look for any oil at all the fittings.
