Re: No Butts

I quit cold turkey on July 9 of this year. I started on Monday and that weekend I was in Kentucky for a tournament, I bought pack because it was so cheap, I couldn't resist. I smoked a few that weekend and then just one a day to finish off the pack. Two weeks later, the last few were nasty because the pack had gone stale. No meds, no patches, just a truck load of chewing gum after that. Every now and then I smoke one if I'm out fishing with a buddy who smoke but I don't go home a buy a pack because it tasted nasty. There were 3 things that made me quit. Number one was the image of my late father who had lung cancer, looked terrible on his death bed and passed away at 61 years old. Number two was my when my son immitated me. He put his fingers up to his lips and acted like he was puffing a cig. I wants to live to see my grandson, unlike my father who didn't get to see his grandson. Number 3 was that I couldn't afford 4 dollars something a pack anymore. Just think of the numerous reasons why you should quit then you will succeed.

Re: No Butts

sorry i was on a business trip, been gone 4 a bit.
how u doin?
you asked whyd i go back to smoking?
i allways liked the taste and in a few moments of weakness had a smoke with some friends that were doing the same.
it smelt soo goood! silly me
the problem is every time you have one drag of a smoke, you start quitting again right from squair one. the cravings five minits apart,
by the time my guests left i had bought a pack.
as soon as you buy a pack thats it!

keep up the good fight!

cheers

Hang in there, Kwikk9.

"Quitting smoking is easy -- I've done it dozens of times."

I finally quit in 1987 after 20 years of nicotine addiction. It's the hardest thing I've ever done. I tried all kinds of things, but the SmokeStoppers program is what finally worked for me. Everyone has different things that work, and I finally found one.

Back then there really weren't all the pills, patches, etc. but the RN leading the program I was in said we really needed to purge our systems of the nicotine, and that ruled out the patches etc.

Which was worse -- the physical addiction or the physical and social habit? Can't really say. Modify your routine and habits. I think my work productivity plummeted because I was away from my desk and walking around so much. Nowadays, it'd probably be the opposite with most workplaces being tobacco-free. Any way you can enlist a friend, coworker, neighbor to talk with? I mean to go to them and say "I *really* want a smoke, but instead I'm going to chat with you for a few minutes."

After I'd quit, there were certain points when that craving washed over me -- 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2 years, then I was finally free. Now it really irritates me when I smell someone smoking.

Still smoke-free since Oct.1. I'm now tapering off the Chantix and will be all done with it by New Years. That's good because I've been experienceing the side effect of increased flatulence!
