Hi all,
Have been very much a part of this forum stalking for a while now, and recently acquired a new to me 2000 sea ray 180 with a Mercruiser 3.0l in it. The serial number I've found on it is M018823. When I bought it, hadn't been used for about 10 months (no winterizing required here in Brisbane Australia). Had the shop do a service on it before it got sent to me.
Since then it has been unite frustrating. First off, fuel was not being pumped. After a lot of things, got a new fuel pump fitted and still didn't fix it. Put on a different fuel/water seperator and bobs your uncle. Working great! Got smart tabs, boat worked flawlessly for about an 8 hour day.
Then...
Went to take it out the next weekend, and started perfect, got out onto the lake, pulled a kneeboarder up and cruised for a bit. Stopped (not abruptly at all), left engine running, changed kneeboarders and suddenly engine had no power. Throttled back to idle, motor shaking violently. Thought it must've been mounts but after reading here, obviously not.
So...putted back to shore, and since then trying to troubleshoot.
Pulled spark plugs, all good really. Getting spark too. Did compression check, and 145 in cylinders 1&4, 0 in cylinders 2&3...
Didn't do the wet test as I read on here that to get zero, wet test won't show much??? Should I do it anyways??
Pulled the valve cover off to see if any valves stuck...doesn't seem to be...
Cranked engine and all four moving up and down...
Can I do the wet compression test with the valve cover off??
What should I do now?? No service guys out here for these motors at all....so trying to do it myself.
Have manual#26 on my iPad that I've been using...
Any help appreciated!!
