I have a 1990 seaswril with a OMC 5.0L cobra. I had a fur issue 2weeks ago and recently got a remanded carburetor and replaced it today. While cranking it it started to fire but then stoped abruptly and now I have nothing I wondering if the starter took a crap and that’s where I should start with or not. Any help will do thank you. It has spark and fuel it just will not try to crank at all.

Positive cable at the starter is the first place I'd look, to see if it's making good contact there.

I pulled on cable to see it it was loose before I got shut out by some rain I’ll have to recheck for all that in the morning when I can it was cranking just fine with no problem tried to fire and then nothing not even a click from the starter I’m a rookie when it comes to boat the other day we had rain and I for got to take plug out and when I went to work on the carb the other day the engine bay was filled with water I’m hoping water didn’t leak into motor some how but I checked oil before cranking and there was no trace of water on the dip stick I hope I haven’t seized the engine

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... If the water was over the starter, My guess is, the starter is dead,....

That was another thought as well I don’t think it was over the starter but definitely in contact with it it that’s for sure I guess if any water leaked in it definitely got tossed around until it killed it thanks!

The motor started to crank again it doesn’t make sense not sure if the starter just started to stick or stall but I’m sure now that the starter is going bad or is bad. Could also been from a bad battery as well.

clean all the connections from the battery to the starter and block, then up to the helm.

if you suspect the starter, pull it and go thru it.
