Just bought first boat and having first boat issue. First time out, had difficulty engaging into forward. Reverse is fine. I played with shifter arm on motor and eventually engaged. After 1 hour of use, engine refused to engage in forword. Until I recieve service manual, I am at a loss. I disconnect shifter cable and tried engaging forward by move the shifter arm on motor, still no luck. Any ideas? Also, I have learned that some motors have electirc shift. This one is mechanical. Re: No forward on 1967 Johnson 60hp,

Sorry I don't have more suggestions than this. A service manual should help your troubleshoot the shift. Copies of the orginal Johnson service manual are available from the Ken Cook Company.<br /> http://www.kencook.com/kccwww/marinepubs/marinepubs.html <br /><br />After market are available from local Bookstores, Amazon.com, Eay, or even your local library.

Re: No forward on 1967 Johnson 60hp,

Thanks for the link. I ordered Clymer shop manual from Barn & Noble. Getting an origianl copy woudl be better. <br /><br />I'm not sure of how this gearbox works. Does the quality or quantity of oil effect the shifting. Is there some hydralic valve function happening when moving into gear. In the garage, with the boat in gear, the prop if definatly engaged. It seemed to be that way in the water also at idle speed. Give it a little gas though and its began to disengaged.

Are you sure it disengaged/ Have you ruled out a spun prop?<br /><br />Rich
