No foward shifting

88 mercruiser 3.0L /Alpha One drive

Hello
After a long winter I finally started my engine today with no visible problems.
Engine Sounds smooth and oil is free of moisture.

For the first time I did lot of maintenance work myself after studying the owners manual and of course reading this forum and taking Don?s advise.
The work included:
New gimbal bearing
All new bellows
New shift cable
New trim switches
New elbow manifold
Pressure test the drive

The only set back is the shift cable it shifts into reverse but not forward?
The shift shaft looks good and it was installed in forward

Any comments before I start playing with the cable barrel adjustment?

Make sure all of the pivot points on the shift plate are lubed.....​

Don't just "PLAY" with the adjustment. Adjust it by the book so it will work....

I did it by the book.

This afternoon I was able to make it work 8 out of 10 times
The 2 time it missed I could hear the gear gring a bit.
I must be missing it by very little.
