So today I took my boat out and it was running prefect parked anchored up and all was good. I went to start the boat it started fine as it should have I gave it some throttle and bam died flat on its face I found out it wasn’t getting fuel but could hear the pump running but I was having to use the prime ball to get it to pump fuel and running. My question to all you knowledgeable captains/mechanics out there what would cause this problem? Would it be an air leak from tank to pump or something else? Thanks for the help!

OMC cobra 5.0 the fuel pump was relocated and now has that system with a prim bulb and no this is the first this has happened

Ayuh,.... There still should Not be a primer bulb in the system,.....

To find the problem, pull the fuel filter, 'n check it's Contents for anything but clean fresh gasoline,.....
Is the filter full,..??
If fuel is getting to the filter, 'n fuel pump, is the fuel at the carb,..??

Likely spots for a plug up,.... The dip tube in the tank, the anti-siphon valve at the tank fitting, plugged fuel filter, or plugged up carb,.....

A vacuum leak, anywhere 'tween the fuel pump, 'n the fuel in the tank could also be a problem,.....

I dont think the fuel is getting to the pump and I’m not sure why I had to pump fuel into the filter with the priming ball that’s in line with the fuel system I’ve attached a photo of the fuel pump I have

Ayuh,.... Is that pump wired through an oil pressure switch,..??

If the fuel ain't gettin' to the pump, it's plugged up-stream,....
It could be the tank's diptube, or the anti-siphon valve at the tank's outlet, or it could be the primer bulb itself,.....

I’m not sure about it being wired to an oil pressure switch but makes since if it’s low on oil it would not send signal to the fuel pump if that’s the case right? I’ll have to check that today. I plan on pulling the fuel/water separator today to see if the fuel inside is clean thanks for the advice!

Oh okay well the fuel pump is running I can hear it humming so maybe it is the priming ball. Went out today took fuel line off carb and put the line in a gas can turned key and there was fuel let run till 5 gallons came out at one point it seemed like the pump was slowing down. I turned key off put fuel back in boat to repeat turned key back on and it had lost prime, primed fuel back up and pumped just fine again. I have the fuel pump so I might just eat the 70$ and replace it to see if it works if not I’ll work from there thanks again.
