Tohatsu 1998 40d motor not pumping out water. After removing the head, the water jacket, the power head, the lower unit, and finally after reassembly of all, inserting quarter inch od copper tube into the internal water pick-up and getting fabulous flow; reinstalled lower unit with negative results. Water does not make it to the power head, it seems to escape at the linkage disconnect. What gives?!! Any suggestions??

You missed something. Take it to someone else who can look at it with a fresh perspective.

Have you checked or changed the impeller itself or complete kit ? If so, probably impeller key issues, reversed impeller direction when asembling or you have missed the insertion beteween the water pipe and lower water pump rubber seal. ? There sems to be other rubber parts between tube and wp rubber seal, check.

Its a case of you not seeing something that is in front of you or you not knowing what it is that you are doing. It happens to everyone, including me. A fresh pair of eyes can often spot something that is obvious, yet overlooked.

That's why is a must to write down, mark, take pictures of parts when removed so not to miss when final assembled .
