No HIN numbers on the boat ???

hey guys , i have a good one for ya. Just bought a boat with a salvage title and trying to get it back on the water. the boat has been restored but i think during fiberglass repair and new paint the HIN numbers were removed. I have an inspector coming by soon to look at the boat but not sure what to tell him about the numbers. any ideas what to do i am 100% sure the boat and title match but how will he know

We had a similar situation at my job one time. I am a truck driver and the DOT changed the rules concerning converter dollies (part that makes a semi- trailer into a trailer). In the end we ended up stamping the vin number in the frame with a stamp and a hammer. It worked and we never had any problems during the inspections.
Can you have a small metal plate engraved with the number and then screw/bolt it to the hull?
I am new here but I think it should work..
