No low gear forward throttle & lots of smokes

[ALM80 1]

Bought an 89 force 85hp which has not been running for at least 7 years. Prop turns fast on full throttle but not on low gear and lots of smokes. Please advise. Thanks.

Can you please clarify the problem?<br /><br />There is only one gear forward, and one gear for reverse. Are saying the prop will not turn at low engine speeds?

Exactly. It only kicked in at high gear. Thanks for replying.

Marine Doctor, I think that I have old/bad fuel in my tank. Want to drain it but do not know how to do it. Please advise. Thanks.

With the motor off, engine in gear, and spark plug wires pulled off, grab the prop with both hands and try to turn it. If it turns easily, and the flywheel does not turn, then you probably have a severely spun prop hub. That would mean that the rubber bushing inside the prop has to be replaced, about $45 at a prop shop.
