After you take out the 2 plugs to drain the lower unit, make sure you clean the plugs and seals as good as you can. After filling your lower unit with oil you can hold the oil bottle in the lower hole while you (or a helper) replace the upper plug. When tightened it creates a partial vacuum like Bailey said. Then pull the oil bottle out of the lower hole and put the lower plug in as quickly as you can. Some oil will leak out but it should be very little. Having the plug CLEAN and HANDY nearby makes the job pretty simple. If you're good at it you will have the lower plug in before even an ounce of oil leaks out. If you have trouble with the plug just stick the oil bottle back in, remove the top plug and refill and try again. Remember....clean hands and clean plugs make the job much easier. Also the FAST, START, SHIFT, SLOW label is on the part of the tiller arm which doesn't turn and there should be some kind of pointer on the grip part that turns.
