Hello, i think i have found interesting fact about shift cable adjustment.
We all know amazing video made by our colleague achris about shift adjustment and turning 4 turn out with the remote cable barrel.
BUT I’ve found newest manual which says if we have shift assist we skip this step. Can anyone tell why and confirm this? Thanks

If the shift plate is equipped with a shift assist assembly, then skip this step and go to step 7.

a. If the shift plate does not have a shift assist assembly, then follow these instructions.

NOTE: Two different–sized threaded ends have been used on the remote control shift cable.

Minor Disassembly

b. After the cable has been aligned, turn the brass barrel two turns away from the cable end guide on 1/4‑28 threaded ends and four turns away from the cable end guide on 1/4‑40 threaded ends.

my 2004 cable is peened to the threaded rod from the factory, als had shift assist. The replacement cable I bought was adjustable. Not sure why what etc I assumed they set the length assembling new ones so they would not have to adjust when making transom assys ?

Well I messed the whole thing up as mentioned I screwed up the swivel shaft bushing tried to adjust the peened nut on the original cable , which worked fine... never had a boat that shifted as well.

When i tried to adjust the original the barrel nut got stuck. bought a new cable took the end off it with the adjustable nut put it on the old cable, used the length old one was at before I gorilla-ed it solid . Probably should have change the whole cable but this was at the end of two weekends of skinned knuckles, too many beers, and 4.5 hr drives to my folks place where i keep the boat. this was 4 years ago still shifts perfect on 24 yr old original cable.

Whole thing made a believer out of me on using OEM parts. My boat was 11 yrs old with 37 hrs when i got it with a cracked block, now 22 yrs 450 hrs.

I have changed 12 -14 yr old alpha water pumps for my friends that were original impellers and looked fine. Last weekend set the record. I gave my grandfathers trolling motor 1973 evinrude 9.5 that he bought new to my neighbors kid who is about 10-11.

We used up up until 9 years ago, I put it in a 12 ft tinny that my grandfather gave me and my brother when I was about 10 or 12 also sat unused. Rebuilt the carb cleaned and set the points and this kid can start it first pull. There was water in gear oil last year so when I started it in a bucket this year it wasn't moving any water... I expected a blade to be off the impeller - it was completely intact but had taken such a set it wasnt sealing against the housing. New impeller pushing crazy water now.

Sorry for making a short story long but if that impeller was changed it was before I started helping my grandfather winterize which was when I was 13 or 14 , im now 54, so good f'ing quality parts for sure ...
