No more OMC parts?

I know OMC is out of business. Bombardiare purchased their assets. The newer OMC units (SX) were actually manufactured by Volvo-Penta (voint venture). So, parts for those units are OK.

I think this is part of the whole story. Bombidaiare don't want to be in the outdrive business. Volvo-Penta still makes parts for all of their outdrives, this the OMC SX units are OK. However, Volvo-Penta has stopped making parts (or never did) for the OMC King Cobra. If this is true, then people owning the King Cobras are stuck!

However, I'm looking at a boat (1994 Four Winns) with an OMC King Cobra Cone Clutch.

I'm hearing that I will not be able to find parts for that outdrive anymore. Four Winns even told me parts are going to be a problem!

Anybody know the scoop on this? I really like this boat, but I don't want to repower or pay top dollar for parts down the road.

I can't get a straight answer from either Bombidear or Volvo-Penta.

Yes,there are parts still at local dealers. But you are right. They are going to be sparse. So do yourself a favor and stay away from potential trouble.Take this from one hobby crazed badly burned rolmops.

Re: No more OMC parts?

Hi, Here's a suggestion, go to the bombardier dealer and see if he can check on his computer in the dealer network if the parts or a complete unit are available. He should be able to check. If a complete unit is available, ask him how many there are. If there is a lot, you can take your chances. If there are only a few, You might want to invest in one now, if you plan to keep the boat for a while. That way, you'll have one that you might not need right away, but how much would it cost 5 years from now? Or if it's still available.
