No more politics for me

I have decided I need to stop. I no longer enjoy discussing politics, or at least, I have burned out with all the mud-slinging, he said she said, it's not my fault it is his crap. The commercials on television are disgusting. Politicians no longer speak about what they can do for our country. Rather, they choose to discuss how the other has screwed it up....basically saying, "hey look at me, I won't screw you as much as the other candidate." Very disheartening, in my opinion. I have found myself getting caught up in the same type of dialogue many times. It's just not productive and I walk away feeling less than good about it.

We can all speak until blue in the face on our position, but it does not help. It usually get tempers flaring, and sometimes turns me into something I would rather not be.

So, I will no longer discuss politics, until the smoke has cleared and the Nov. elections are over.

Parting political comment, Kim Jong Il is an idiot, and I hope we elect people whose first priority while in office is the USA.

Election campaign ads closely follow Hitler's interpretation of effective war propaganda. Interesting eh?

Yea, I don't even watch TV anymore because of all the political stuff on all the channels.

CJY, good on ya mate! I wish everyone else would take a break as well. I did the same as you and decided not to post to political threads or listen to talk radio or news programs that are political in nature. I feel much better now, not so angry and stirred up all the time.

Trouble is, that here lately, there are hardly any threads in Dock Side Chat that aren't political, therefore not much to respond to.

CJY, Not good, you have now given in to the political process as the controllers desire. Get the everyday guy out of the way and our special interest will be served.

It is not only your privilege to speak out but your responsibility to address the need to clean out the bad. Yep both parties but today is a good day to start with Foley and all who helped in his coverup. All should be removed if not by sanction of the Congress then certainly by vote of the people.

I disagree with you.
Politics is always a safe thing to talk about with people you don't have anything to say to.

Re: No more politics for me

txs and rol,

I agree with both of you, and will continue to talk politics where I believe it to be productive. I just don't think politics on this board is productive at the moment, and I leave feeling less than good after the discussion. It's a discussion that goes nowhere and usually causes hard feelings. I'm sure I, as well as those I have discussed politics with feel as though we are banging our heads against the wall. Well, right now my head hurts.

My beliefs have not changed regarding W, or any other politician for that matter. I just want to try to figure out who has our country in their best interest, and make an informed decision. Talking politics on this board with people that may be as biased as I am will not help me reach that goal.

The Nov elections are just a few weeks away, and then I will go from there. Maybe by then, I will have more to offer than I have now.

I forget his name, but a republican from WV is beginning to stir the pot a bit with his talk of changes in Iraq within 60-90 days or else.... Should be ripened quite well by the time I am ready to talk politics again.

How can any discussion online cause hard feelings? Are you really that sensitive, or insecure about your beliefs?

To me this is all in fun and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Politics is always a safe thing to talk about with people you don't have anything to say to.

And you do it so well. 8)

"How can any discussion online cause hard feelings?"

Good question, but they often do.

Re: No more politics for me

Unfortunately, in a democracy if it is to function at all well, the citizens of that democracy need to be informed and to discuss their opinions openly. The alternative is to hope a benevolent dictator shows up who will always do what's best for us, and we no longer have to worry about it.

An untested idea or belief is not worth much until it is tested against some form of reality.

While I agree that throwing around the same old labels and cliches get pretty old after a fashion, still it is telling when one side has only cliches and labels to fall back on when they have no real evidence to go on.

It's too bad we can't seem to talk about issues facing this country without getting into flame wars, but so it goes, I guess.

Politics or religion...the end result is the same when discussing them......anger. Both subjects are so entrenched in our daily lives that we can't help but be very passionate about them but the bottom line is, nobody will likely change your mind on either.

That remark is uncalled for Crunch.

I am guilty of the labels and slinging, usually late at night. I don't do it to tick people off at me; I'm just tired of the labels and slinging at what I think.

No one here has changed my mind or my beliefs. I can handle hearing things that are contrary to what I believe, but some of the stuff that is said is so extreme is hard to fathom that it is what the poster actually thinks is good for the country.

I have tried to stay away from DC and the rhetoric that goes on, but find myself coming here, lurking for awhile then typing away. I think I'm addicted to it....AHHHHHHHH
