No Neutral or reverse

I have a 75 Mercury 50HP i dropped the lower end yesterday when I put it back I have no reverse or neutral. The lever pulls fine and the engine starts what gives????<br /><br />Also I have no water going from the tell tale hole but water pump looks okay ..any ideas how to flush it???? thanks Erik

The shift shaft splines are off by a spline or two, you missed the water tube that fits into the top of the pump.

You went through the trouble of dropping the lower unit, disassembled the water pump to examine it, and then put it together with the old parts? Seems like a waste of time. Why not replace the impeller when you had it apart. As Willy says -- the upper shift lever and lower unit shifter were not both in the same gear. You need to get the water tubes and the shift splines aligned when you slider it back together.

On my Merc 200 it was easier to get things aligned in neutral than forward when re-assembling.
