Hope someone can help me with this. I have twin mercury 3.0 liter engines in my 24 ft. Sea Ray which has been sitting unused for a number of years. I decided to get the motors running again. Got the port engine running again then started on the starbord engine. Started it up and found that the alternator was frozen up so put a breaker bar on the alternator and freed it up and treated the belt with conditioner. started it up and it ran fine. shut it off and
checked the oil. There was no oil on the dip stick. The engine had only run about one minute. filled it up with new oil and checked the oil pressure gauge and it was reading 20 or thirty lbs. ran it about 30 minutes reving it up occasionally then shut it off. Went out the next day, started it up and now it reads 0 on the oil pressure gauge. the other engine reads 30 lbs. took off the the oil pressure sending unit and replaced it with the sending unit off the other engine. still reads 0. The starbord engine reads 30 lbs from the oil sending unit I took off the port engine so I know bothe sending units are good. Plenty of good clean oil in starbord engine and it runs fine. I would think if it wasn't getting any oil pressure it would be clacking etc. and freeze up but it runs just fine. these engines are two that I installed about 10 years ago and I think they are 1985. Can't figure out why one time the port engine gauge reads fine one day and now reads 0 and the engine sounds great. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Bill
