I have a '59 johnson 50hp v4, and I've replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel strainer, rebuilt both carbs, and thinking bout the fuel pump next. The motor runs great in a barrel, starts first pull, revs up great, idles smooth (500 RPMs), but in the lake, in gear the best I can get is 1800 RPMs, so a fast trolling speed, in neutral it revs up. Did I miss something when I rebuilt the carbs? Is the float supposed to be attached to the needle, or does it just rest on it (the old one didn't) Im borrowing a fuel tank from my brother from his 5hp, is it possible that it is starving from too small of fuel line? I tryed adjusting the fuel mixture on the high side and the RPMs did not change.
