we have a evinrude 65 hp 1972 triumph.it has run o.k. the past two years. this year it runs on land with a hose. put it in the water and it is hard to start and when it does run it's hard to keep it running and get it into gear. Then it has no power. I noticed that there is alittle water coming out of the exhaust relief ports at the top.
could I have water getting into the exhaust or could the reliefs be glogged? or am I all washed up and should look at something else?
thanks

Hi JimmyA,
Water is supposed to come out of the exaust relief holes.
It sounds like the carbs are gummed up from sitting too long with old gas in the carbs. I would remove them, take them apart and do a good cleaning then see if that don't help.

One more question.. why does it start and run out of water and not under a load? i'll clean out the carbs and see what happens
