I have an older johnson 9.9 and it cranked fine when I put it in the water inspite of the 22 degree weather. It throttled up and ran fine until I put it in gear, then it would just barely push the boat. It has been fine until today. I ran it 2 days ago with no problem. I removed the fuel line to check for water. There may have been about the size of 2 grains of rice if any at all. Any other thoughts on what may cause this? Thanks

Re: no power in gear

Was it that cold the other day when you used it? My first thought is due to the extremely cold weather, the LU oil may be very cold as well and has thickened up, making the prop spin slower. Just a thought though. How were the RPM's? Were they low as well or was it revving but barely moving the boat, indicating a possible problem with the prop itself. Also, what year is the motor?
