Hi. My problem started when my fuel gauge quit, while on the river. It had been working fine, when I restarted my motor,it would not move from empty.( tank was 3/4 full). I did a forum search here and started trying to trouble shoot the gauge. I tried to jump the s and g leads on both the gauge and sender, but could not get the gauge to move at all. Now I cant get the motor to turn over, or the trim to work from either the helm control or the switch on the motor? The bilge pump, lights, horn, depth finder and wipers all work? The fuel gauge and of course the starter would only work with the key on, but the trim would work with it on off.Could I have blown a fuse trying to jump the gauge? Any help would be appreciated. The motor is a 2006, 60 hp yami 4 stroke.:confused:

That is what it was. I replaced the main 20A fuse and now have tilt and start, but still no fuel gauge. I guess I must have crossed some the wrong wire trying to jump the gauge, but I was surprised it would blow the main fuse on the motor? I think I am now going to just replace the gauge, and if that wasn't it at least I will have a brand new gauge.

You shouldn't be surprised that messing with the fuel gauge blew the fuse at the engine because power for the instruments comes from the ENGINE harness, not the BOAT harness. Anytime you lose instruments, no starter, and no trim, that engine fuse is the first place to look. Bilge pumps and all the other accessories are powered via the BOAT harness.

Thanks. That makes sense now. Incidentally, I pulled out the sender unit just to take a look, and then cleaned up the ground and sender terminals, and now the gauge works just fine. So it looks like it was a bad ground at the sender (I was hunting all around the harness under the dash and around the ignition), Also I must have crossed the wrong wires and blew the main fuse. I did learn a lot, however.
