No power trim

I just bought my first boat, it's a small boat with a pretty big motor, 15' speed boat with a 70hp Johnson for the mid 80's. It does not have power trim and I was hoping I might get some advice about setting the angle of motor.

Also, the previous owner had a pair of trim tabs for the back which I was thinking of putting on.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks
Greg

Re: No power trim

Welcome to iboats.

Your trim angle is determined by the pin in the motor mount. You need to establish a sweet spot where your boat will plane and perform the best.

The lowest hole will plane the boat the fastest but the hull will plow the water......... the highest hole could take forever to plane and make the boat handle funny with allot of bounce (not good for tubing, skiing etc).

You just have to experiment.

Keep your eyes open for a used Tilt and trim unit ;)

Trim tabs ? Manual ones will help but you might not need them.....

Just remember to bring one or 2 people with you so you can shift the weight around while experimenting. It makes it a ton easier....

Uh, taking a look at the motor tonight, not bolt in the mount. It looks like the guy who had the boat didn't have anything in there.

I guess that would be the same as having it in the bottom hole? Would I have to go to the Johnson dealer to get a replacement?
