i have a 1962 owens.14 foot fibreglass.the motor is a 1961 evinrude lark III 40hp.model#35524.the motor runs great,nice and quiet.starts everytime with no hesitation.the problem is when in forward guear or reverse for that matter,in full throttle the boat seems to only go at trolling speed. ive checked the throttle cable and everything seems to operate. no speed. the motors doesent rev high in full throttle.can anyone help?

winston,<br /><br />You are probably only running on one cylinder. Outboards will idle relatively fine with a cylinder missing.<br /><br />Check the spark on both cylinders.

had one like that.<br /><br />it sounds like djohns said. one cylinder. mine was because of a bad float in carb. would start it would run but if you shut it off, carb would overflow into motor and then the lower plug would foul. fixed the carb and no more problem.<br /><br />also, does it go wot, and not go anywhere. possibly the prop has spun but think it is going on one cylinder
