I would just like to say that despite the amount of hours I have put and continue to put upon my 1988 85 hp Force, model 856X8B, it just keeps going and going and going. Occasionally a part will require replacement. However, the motor has always brought us home once upon the water. I estimate the amount of hours on this motor to be somewhere close to 2500 to 3000. Compression between cylinders remains only 1 or 2 psi difference at 141-143 psi. This motor gets run anywhere from 100 to 250 miles each and every week in saltwater. I credit this motors mileage maybe due to flushing with fresh water, replacing the lower unit oil every 2 months or sooner and most of all...simply using it and not letting it sit unused. There maybe better built motors. I however find Forces simplicity in design to be a blessing and maybe another reason why it has lasted so long. That's all....Cheers!
