No prop movement or water flow - Did I get ripped off?

I apologize ahead of time for being a newb to this. I just purchased a 2001 Tahoe with the Alpha One package and a 4.3 MPI V6. We were out on the lake, going at 70% throttle, took a turn, and lost prop movement. Dead in the water. The engine continued to run fine.
Now the symptoms are, no forward drive, only throttle up when attempting to engage the drive. No reverse drive (engine stalls when trying to reverse). When I finally got back home, and hooked up my muffs, I noticed there was no longer any water flushing through the package. Thus resulting in an overheat if I had left it running.

Do you think I'm facing mechanical failure or a blockage? I don't believe I have any cables snapped. I can see parts move in the lower gear unit when I attempt to put it in gear (without it running of course). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would venture a cable issue. I just heard of the same problem 2 weeks ago with the engine stalling when put in reverse. That fellow found out his controller was shot. Look for cable, controller issue. As for the water, that would be a seperate issue from the shifting.

this would also cause the water flow issue? The symptoms started at the same time.

after searching on what firestar gave me, I found some issues on couplers being shot. This would explain no movement, and no water I think.

Can anyone else add any other thoughts?

If the coupler went I wouldn't expect the engine to stall when put in reverse. I can't explain the water issue arising at the same time. Someone here will have an answer.

Spun coupler or snapped driveshaft. The shifting cogs in the clutch and gear will ramp into place in forward, but in reverse they are more likely to jam on top of eachother and trigger the shift-assist which momentarily kills the engine. Why a turn @ 3/4 throttle would snap a shaft or spin a coupler is the mystery. Have you checked the drive gearlube? Some people very unwisely store them empty.

Lube is good.
My first thoughts were the driveshaft, but I thought that I would hear noises when I put it in gear. And I wasn't sure on the water flow issue either.
The sound is silent from the outdrive when I put it in gear, only hearing engine.
