No prop

Hello All,

I took my 1985 Galaxie 1800 v out for her maiden voyage yesterday.
3.8L V6 OMC I/O drive

All was working well until i gave it a decent amount of gas. there was some sort of 'pop' and i then had no prop motion. Once out of the water i could see the ball gears would spin, but they will spin even when in neutral.
this leads me to believe the power is getting to the ball gears on the out drive, but stops somewhere before the prop.

I guess my question being what is your best guess on what broke? should i drop the whole drive or just the lower unit?

Most likely the 3 piece vertical drive shaft let loose, or the worlds most expensive shift cable broke

either way, the drive is coming off and going on your bench
