I have a 1988 sabre 20 ft pontoon It has no plate on it any where. What would be the biggest motor to put on it. I have read the formula. But am not sure if the transom would handle a 100 plus horse motor. Thanks for your help. I have learned alot of off this forum

Re: No rating plate on pontoon

I too can't find a rating plate on my pontoon, It's a 90 bluefin/spectrum with a 90 hp force motor. It's a 24 footer and is actually a split-hull to make the pontoons. Any idea where I can find specs on this boat? I'd like to go to a 115 or 125 if it will handle it. Maybe even a 150.

Re: No rating plate on pontoon

Really big engines in '88 were kinda rare and rarely seen on a pontoon.

I would say the largest engine you can put on that is a 90 and then only if you can confirm it is rated for that.

Alot of toons from that era were rated for smaller engines, 90 and smaller, and a 150 would rip your motor pod right off the boat.

Also, that is alot of weight to be hanging a a 20'er, if you don't have 25'' tubes it woudln't work very well anyhow.
