no serial #s

been enjoying the posts, had to sign up. just bought a 87 cuddy capri with a 86? force 85hp. this vessel was stolen recovered. I have a good hin. have looked everywhere on motor no numbers other than on carbs. would like to know what model/series so when parts are needed. any help would be great. also which repair manual is prefered. seloc or clymer?

the serial number should be in the stern brackets along with the model numbers, check there and then let us know.. oh clymer manual is 10x better

The blue Forces started in 1987.Take a couple pics of the motor,cover and port side and head.
You probably have a 87. The motor has the serial #s(usually missing) on the left side transom mount.The difference in these motors is real small.So any serial # will probably work.
If you plan on keeping the boat buy the factory manual.Clymer@Seloc are ok but they cover a lot of motors and give general info on them.Factory.s way better.J

gentlemen, i completed my homework and found some numbers,
on the port side of head : L658532
here's one by the bottom (3rd) spark plug 4999
the cowling part number is 663712
carbs read G31061
lastly, prior to purchase i metered 120psi dry compression test in each cylinder. what would a brand new motor read?
