What about bleaching out my BLUE boat? I'm trying to remove oxidation. Do they even sell Comet without bleach?

I'm not sure about Comet w/o bleach. I've always used liquid Soft Scrub for the minor oxidation projects on machinery. It always seemed like if the item had some of that black-looking stuff on it (mold, tree sap?) that the Soft Scrub w/bleach worked best. The bleach won't affect the paint color but you would need to keep in mind what you're using it in the vicinity of.
Workin in the shade is important too... for more than just the obvious reason.

You will all laugh at this suggestion but I watched a guy do it years ago and it worked. Boat sat under a pine tree for years and looked new in a few hours.

Wash the boat. Then rub it with Blue Plate Mayonnaise. Wipe it off. Boat looks brand new.

I couldn't believe it. Doesn't work with other brands of mayo. Miracle Whip doesn't work. If your gel coat is too far gone it may not work. But hey, if it's that far gone, what do you have to lose.

You're right...I did laugh...but not because I doubted it would work. Think about it...someone here might try it because they heard you mention it, you might try it because you know someone who had it work for them, that guy might have tried it because he read it somewhere, etc...but somewhere back up the line there had to be someone try it first. Now what in the hell would cause a person to try cleaning their boat with mayonaise?
Maybe it's in fine print on the label.... "excellent boat cleaner"
:D

Mark, superb post - and this is my first post. Makes me happy to have the internet. I can't wait to finish my own project with a friend, and get to polish her up nice - as your site suggests.

Don't take that page down!

-Alheim

Blue plate mayonaise...are you freakin kiding me? Let's see, Mayo...hummm, oil - gets it wet and shiney + eggs for a nice hard finish. At least the seagulls will like it! In a pinch if you have some ham sandwiches you could always lick the boat for some flavor! What a gut bust!

Used car lots used to use Butter Wax for old oxidized single stage paints. Car would look slicker than snot and wet when dry. Until you washed it that is. Wonder if it's still around?
