No Spark 1969 - 72 merc 90hp

i have no ignition key so was told to unplug wiring plug from side of motor to open ignition to be able to check for spark.Jumped starter and get no spark at the plugs.if i pull wire out of center of dist cap and hold next to ground should i see spark that way?Are there any safetys that need to be jumped or bypassed? motor is in nuetral..Oh ya its a thunderbolt ignition

Also forgot to mention that the motor is laying on its face with the tilt in the full UP position.Is there a safty switch that wont allow spark??

That engine has battery CD ignition and requires a constant 12 volt source to switchbox and turns the ignition off/on by supplying 12v to the white wire on switchbox. Either hook up your control box and retest or jumper from the red to white and switchbox on front of engine. Flywheel must rotate to "trigger" the box so stay clear of it and prop.

Can someone show or tell me where the mercury tilt switch is located so i can disconnect it to test spark........thanx.............scott
