No Spark 55HP Chrysler

My 55HP Chrysler ( recently acquired) won't spark,I think it might have sparked on one cylinder briefy, but now it sparks on neither.

The HT coil impedence is approx 3 ohms, and what I assume to be the
"electronic points" under the flywheel have a diode characteristic, ie conduct
in one direction, but not the other.
The alternator part of the stator produces voltage when the engine is cranked.

There is a terminal block on the exhaust side cover plate with the following terminals:

Start/Yellow
Tacho/Purple
Magneto/White
Choke/Green
Heat/Orange
Battery/Red
Magneto/Blue
Ground/Black

Those three magneto wires go nowhere.Should they be connected to something?

I have traced the wires under the flywheel, there is a semicircular block there
which calls itself a capacitor, there are two terminals on it.
One terminal goes to one of the "electronic switchs" then Ht coil then ground,
the other terminal does the same for the other coil.
The circuit has no voltage on it when cranking.

Your help would be appreciated.

Re: No Spark 55HP Chrysler

From your description you have a Magnapower CD Ignition. If so both blue and white ignition wires should go to the CD Box however on the 1982 the blue looks like it is shorted on the strip to the black wire on the barrier strip and the white wire goes to the CD unit. Can you post your model number to better identify your electrical system. There are 6 to choose from.

If the Blue goes to ground and only the White goes to the CD box, there can't

be much in the way of components in the box, perhaps only a capacitor?

That would enable 'em to boast of having a capacitor discharge ignition?

Re: No Spark 55HP Chrysler

I cant find that motor ID. Your post says it is a 55 however the first two digits say it is a 65 HP. Chrysler only made a 65 HP in 1978 but I cant find that model number. Can you recheck it? 659HB is the closest I can find and it looks like only one ignition was made for it called Maganpower CD Ignition. On that ignition both the Blue and White wire go to the CD Module. From the CD Module there should also be a white/gray wire going to the #1 cylinder coil a gray wire going to the #2 cylinder coil and brown and a white/brown wire going to the breaker plate.

Re: No Spark 55HP Chrysler

Thank you for your patience

I actually have two of these motors, they look identical, their cowlings
both say 55HP.

However on closer inspection one is actually a 65HP

The engine plate has the ?5 punched in heavily, but the 6 or 5 in front of
the 5 has obviously been punched in on the assembly line and is much lighter.
They must be identical motors but perhaps with different carby jets?

The 55HP cowling has magnapower written on it.

The engine numbers are 559H1 and 2589 for the 55HP

It would appear the CD unit is missing.?

PS
I almost destroyed my Jeep trying to find why the sound system would't
work, only to discover that there should be an amplifier under the
back seat.?
