NoClue.... You have a 1959 50hp Johnson. It does not have a powerpack. It simply has a belt driven magneto.

THere are two (2) sets of points under the pulley of that magneto.

The spark is delivered by a single coil that transfers the spark to a rotor which in turn delivers that spark to various terminals (s/plug terminals) within the distributor cap.

The fact that you have spark on one bank proves that the condenser, coil, rotor and dist cap are okay.

You have either one set of faulty, dirty, or incorrectly set points. Clean them with either laquer thinner or acetone, then set to .020 on their high lobe.

Pre 61 motors use a belt driven magnito/distributor The wires are screwed into
the distributor cap check for spark and be sure wires are on the right cylinders.Im pretty
sure cap and rotor are hard to come by.Check the condition of the wires.
Point gap is .020 J4C plugs at .030.
Try a decarb ,see if it will loosen the rings,
may help the compression. Usually 100lbs is
considered minimum for ideal performance.
You should get yourself a manual I get my info from an old "abos" ser. manual Covers many brands above 30 hp.repairmanuals.com has manuals for
your motor among other sources.
Also try the library.

Remove the nut. Apply upward pressure on the pulley. Gently rap the pulley shaft downwards and the pulley should pop off. Be careful and gentle when rapping that shaft.

Joe ... shouldnt you put a different nut (same size tho) on the shaft to tap it, so you dont deform the top threads?

thats an auto trick that should make the transition to marine without much bother, lol, or would a brass hammer be soft enough to do the trick?

( have to pull the tops off of my 61 ten horse rude and the 35 johnny, and prolly a 40 johnny, one of these days

mine isnt gen equipped, so all I have to do is use a regular gear puller, right? like a steering wheel puller ... and just bolt it back on to reinstall?

thanks
