Picked up this motor a couple days ago, and turned out to be no spark in all cylinders. Whats the likely cause of this? I doubt all four coils went. Probably both cdis didnt go at the same time. The flywheel looks good. So I'm thinking it has something to do with the stator or trigger. Just not sure.

Thanks

Mid 80'S??? more info.
Mark the flywheel underneath and see if the magnet is moving with the flywheel. They are glued and will come loose.
Kill switch???
Sheared flywheel key will cause this too.Remove the flywheel and pay close attention to the position of the key.J

I took the flywheel off. Magnets dont seem to b loose. Flywheel key is there, and not sheared.

I believe the motor is a 1989 or 1990....Sorry I forgot to put this in the original post.

first as jerry said check your kill switch, if all is fine there and is reading open an open circuit with a meter then the kill switch is probably ok, next i would disconnect the two white wires coming from the mods, there terminated on the terminal strip on the starter side of the motor, try to start and check for spark, if you get spark problem is in key switch or kill switch

Ended up being the killswitch I believe. I disconnected the two wires from the engine side and it starts right up, but the motor will not shut off. Wierd thing is If i keep the two wires connected on the engine side, and disconnect the wires from the killswitch on the dash, I still get no spark.

any thoughts?

Sounds like somewhere either the terminal that the white wires are connected to is wired to ground, or the white wire in the wiring harness is connected to ground somewhere. That's how the motor is turned off when you turn the key. It shorts the white wires to ground.

with the wires from the kill switch disconnected, and no spark, next thing to check is your keyswitch, pull the key switch out of the dash and disconnect the white wire on terminal I, try to start engine if you got spark probably you got a bad ignition switch or possibly wired wrong? with the wires disconnected at the terminal strip and you get spark your trouble is either kill or key switch, youve eliminated the kill switch, good luck don

thanks for the help. Turned out to be 2 wires coming from the main wiring harness were rubbing together and rubbed through eachother and were shorting eachother out.
