No spark from a NS12C

the motor was given to me. but was told it wouldn't start and they didn't know why. and this is what I have found and it is that I get no spark to the plugs. it has a charging set up on it and shows it is working when I pull the rope the numbers go up. any ideas? also I know they don't make this motor any more so were would one find parts? or is it a waste of time trying to fix it?

Many parts for this motor are getting quite rare, so proceed cautiously, lest you throw good money after bad. It's in the 9.9B2/12C2/15B2/18C2 family. You should troubleshoot the ignition. Verify stop button switch, exciter coil, trigger coil, ignition coil and associated wiring. The CD box is likely still available (depending on which type you have), but it's pricey... so troubleshoot with a service manual first.

No carb parts, no electronic parts(except possibly the CD) = Money pit.
