Is there points on a 57 sea horse 35hp motor. We are trying to get it running and there is no spark. Also we are wondering if we can actually get it to start without the pressure tank by just using a bulb to squeeze the fuel into the carb? ( Just to see if it is worth buying a tank for it and if its startable.)Please respond. Thanks

Yes, there are points on that outboard. Try pulling the spark wire off the plug, put a bolt in it, and then hold it 1/4 inch away from metal on the outboard. You should see a bright blue spark. If you don't then you have an electrical problem. Remove the flywheel and replace the ignition coils, and condensers, and finally points.

If you do have spark then you most likely have a fuel related problem...spray premix of oil/fuel into the carb and it should turn over.....good luck!

Those coils are probably shot. And if it sat long enough the carb is likely due for a rebuild. Remove the hand starter and clean and set the points. Also check to see if the casing on the coils is cracked. If it is they will need to be replaced. At $20/coil its not a bad idea to do it anyway.

You can't use a single line tank on that motor. Shoot some pre-mix into the carb or pour a little into the cylinders and crank. However, if you don't have any spark you won't get ignition.

I'd do a compression test and pull the exhaust cover and look at the pistons and rings. If everything tests/looks ok I'd start investing in ignition parts, a carb rebuild kit and a new impeller.
