Finally got to dewinterize the engine this weekend. Went to replace the points, condenser, rotor etc, but all looked to be in great shape (mistake?) so I left them alone. Hooked up the dwell meter and it pegged at full scale (yes, set on 4 cylinders) and engine would crank but not fire. Pulled a plug, cranked the engine and no spark on the plug. Pulled the HV lead from the coil, cranked and no spark from the coil. Voltage is read at the coil so it's getting 12v to the primary. The coil primary ohms out ok at about 5 ohms and the secondary at 10K (little high according to the manual). Could this be a coil problem or points since the dewll was off scale?

Re: no spark on OMC 3L

Tonight I'll replace all those "good"-looking parts since I've got them already. Bought the boat used so wasn't sure how good the parts were so I got the tune-up kit with all the parts including the distributor cap. Did notice the existing points had a funky looking slide type connector for the condenser/coil lead and not the screw/nut type that the new set has and what is usually seen. Seems like the nut type would be more secure anyway.
