I've got a 1976 85hp Johnson that has no spark.<br />Took it to the shop and they said had bad timer base so they replaced it. Then was told thats not the problem. I replaced the stator and power pack and has new timer base but still no spark. Does anyone have a clue what esle to look for. Thanks

Re: no spark with new parts

The kill circuit may be closed. try unplugging the big plug where the wiring goes from the controls to the enging and then jump the starter with jumper cables. If the engine starts you will have to either choke it to death, pull the sparkplug wires, or plug the plug back together.

Does the engine have spark with the spark plugs out?, but not with them in?? If so, then the timer base sensor air gap is too wide. Some dealers had a tool that allow'd a closer adjustment of the sensors to the flywheel magnets (without actually touching them). It is/was not a regular standard tool!!!

I have a 1976 Johnson 200hp with the same problem, (No spark on all cylinders), I check stator, timer base then power pack and after all that it was fix after I replace 1 really small fuse that was blow. The fuse is located next to the power pack on the non driver side (Left side of the motor) Maybe this Helps…

No kill switch?? How do you turn the motor off. I said kill circuit. That's what kills the motor when you turn the switch off. Try unplugging the plug. That will rule out the kill circuit in the key switch.
