No speed out of my 1984 capri cuddy

I have a 1984 Bayliner capri cuddy with a 4 cylynder volvo inboard and 270 outdrive.It runs great but will only get up to 17 miles per hour at 3800 rpm,and thats with just me in the boat.With 4 or 5 people it drops to about 12 miles per hour at 3000 rpm.Im not sure on the pitch of the prop but it looks in good condition.Whats wrong? Is it the outdrive or prop?

As you go through the list, make sure you completely examine each possible problem so that you can completely correct it or rule it out. It's very frustrating to be running around in circles or trying things without a method in mind. It's possible that you may find a solution by buying and installing random parts but that's usually a rather expensive proposition.

People will be much more helpful as you present specific problems you discover with specific components or systems. Let us know what you find.

You should be seeing around 4800 rpm at WOT, not 3800. That is to much of a gap for a prop to be the problem.
