Re: No start, well nothing really!

Update! Went home at lunch and ran a quick temp wire from solenoid to B post on switch, fired right up! I guess my problem wasn't solenoid or switch to begin with.

Re: No start, well nothing really!

If it is broken your choices are 1) find the break and splice it, or 2) run a new wire. But make darned sure you are testing this wire from one junction point (the switch) and wherever that length of wire terminates at the engine. You never mention whether that big wire harness plug at the engine has ever been checked. That plug would be the other end of the wire. If the engine end of the harness does not use a plug/receptacle but rather the wires are tied to a terminal lug on the engine, then that is the end of the wire.

I just had time at lunch to to do the temp wire, when i get home I'm going to check the continuity of the wire to see if it is a break. Yes the big plug has been checked, but I will recheck it when I get home. i will post later, thanks

OK. So your test should be from the B terminal on the switch to whatever pin that corresponds to in the big plug. That represents a single length of wire. If it checks ok, the problem is the connector iteself or it lies between the mating connector and the engine.

The small yellow/red wire on the solenoid comes from the ignition switch. You should have 12V on the red wire at the switch and 12V on the yellow red wire when in the start position. So either you do not have power going to the switch or the switch is bad and not providing power to the solenoid. Or there is a problem with the yellow/red wire between the switch and the motor. Disconnect the plug at the wiring harness under the cowl and check all the pins.

(I have a ? about this!)

OK, I have a 1997 C.C. Sailfish with the shifter on the console, running a 1997 115 SPL Evinrude.
This is my problem, Motor run fine one day, and just clicked the starter over the next day. I've checked the battery, full charge, ok! I checked and cleaned all the terminals going from the bat. and the motor, ok!
I tried to start the motor again, and the starter sounded like it was frying inside. Not good.

Ok, I take the starter off and go get it rebuilt, put it back on, cleaning all wires ends before I did so, Hooked the battery back up, and turned the ignition on, and the starter just clicked a few times and then nothing. ok!

I tried to jump the solenoid with two long screw-drivers and the starter just barely spun over...huh! I don't know where to go from here. But looking at this older post, I saw where you were talking about that red and yellow wire that goes from the starter to the ignition.

OK, I checked that wire and found that I'm not getting any power at the ignition or the starter at the on position.
(Does this mean that my switch is bad?)

I think the waters deep where I'm at.....Help!
