No Start?

First of all let me say great forum, I have been lurking for a while and reading everything I can. But I needed to post this up to hopefully get some help.

I have a 1995 Evinrude 112 SPL engine has been running GREAT! Took the boat out yesterday, everything fine, was towing a kneeboarder right before we pulled up to the dock running as good as ever.

Pull up to the dock to let a couple folks off killed the engine, and sat for a few mins......get ready to head out again, and no start....the motor spins over good, but its not firing, I took a plug wire off and stuck a screwdriver in and theres no spark.

What could this be?

Thanks

Scott

Re: No Start?

Sounds like the neutral start switch to me. Try jiggling the control.

Not neutral start switch, the engine is turning over fine, just no spark. I "think" its the power pak after further reading this evening.

Alot Of Boats Now Adays Have Alot Of Safety Devices Installed On Them One For Over Heating Low Oil No Oil Water In The Gas..im Sure Theres More. Just Like On A Mower Wont Start Till Ya Sit On It. Now You Have A Place To Start Looking.. If For Somereason You Have Tripped One Of These It Will Not Allow Any Spark To The Plugs..its Usally A Black With A Yellow Stripe Wire.. When I Had That Problem I Cut That Wire Then Tried To Start It. Started Right Up..note: It Will Not Be Able To Shut It Off With The Key You Will Have To Ground That Wire To A Bolt Next To It.

Re: No Start?

yes, you'll want to do this before buying any parts - its possible for kill switch to test ok but the kill wire is accidently grounded elsewhere in the circuit, for example, a faulty keyswitch.

An alternative to cutting the kill wire (black/yellow) is unplug the main engine wiring harness and jump the solenoid to crank. Engine can be shut off by choking, alternatively, you can keep it from starting by disconnecting the spark plugs and grounding the wires while you test for spark.

Re: No Start?

OK, thanks for all the help so far fellas.

I tried the Black/Yellow wire unplug, still the same thing....nothing.

I have a new power pak on the way so I should know something by the weekend.
