The motor on my boat is not the original motor and the tach does not work. I know a tach in a boat is a near and dear thing. So how do I make it work? Do I need to buy an aftermarket tach? If so how and where do they hook up? The motor is a 1979 Evinrude 150. Thanks for any info.

Re: No tach.

Have you checked the wiring? Is there a pole switch on the tach?

Re: No tach.

Sorry I guess I shoud do a little more digging before i just jump on here for help. Went to look at the tach some more today. Noticed it wasn't screwed down, so I pulled it out. The wires arn't even hooked up. But, why you ask. The gauge is only good for 2, 3, or 4 cylnder engines. I have a V6 O/B. So, now I know I need a gauge. But my question still stands as to where it hooks up. I don't see any wires not hooked up under the dash?

Re: No tach.

There should be a gray wire in your control box. That's the pulse feed for the tach. The other connections on the tach should just be positive and negative. Maybe an additional positive for backlighting.

Thanks. I'll go have a look when the weather clears up.
