recently bought a 1978 18' ski boat with an OMC 185
new points, and plugs and wires, fuel filter and cleaned in-line fuel screen
Takes a while to plane out on take offs feels as if its loosing power or just lagging until it planes...once planned though it runs prettly good WOT 3100? or so at 35 MPH or little more

my WOT is only reaching 3100 rpm or so?
My current prop is 14.5x19 is this correct for an 18' ski boat.

any suggestions would be helpful

Re: no take off power

I know you just ordered your manual about an hour ago, so can I assume you haven't checked to see if the dwell or timing or advance timing is correct. Did you do a compression check yet? That would be a good place to start.
Here is a Merc service bulletin on how to do a proper compression check.
http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/97/97_25.pdf
Also check the fuel pickup in the tank to make sure the screen is clean, and check the antisiphon valve for debris.
Don't start changing props till you are sure the ignition, fuel, and mechanical parts of the engine are in good working order.
