My telltale suddenly stopped. I checked the water intake and is clear, removed the telltale hose and it’s clear, replaced the impeller and hooked a water hose to the tube that goes down through the water pump housing and get good water flow through the engine. Did this to make sure I didn’t have a blockage somewhere. On ear muffs still get no telltale. What else should I try?

Water comes out of a hole at the bottom of the midsection if I plug it with my finger it comes out of the top of the midsection. Added pics but not sure I did it correctly

You can pull the thermostat housing and see if water is flowing up through the motor. I just did that on my motor (same 90 Nissan). I had this issue last year, it was a spider nest in the telltale hose out of the motor. But water through the thermostat housing would indicate whether water is getting to the power head.

If it is not flowing up through the thermostat housing on the hose, I would go back to the bottom end and double check all the tubes and impeller are installed correctly. When I first did my impeller I didn't set the woodruff key correctly and the shaft would spin but the impeller would not.

I’m not getting any water up to the thermostat either. I’ve checked the impeller several times. If I have the lower end off and hook the water hose the the water pipe that runs from the lower end up to the engine I get a great flow, but not even a trickle with the lower end on. To me that would mean no blockage. Could maybe the upper housing on the impeller cause this? It looks fine, but I’m at a complete loss

Are all of the water pipe seals where the pipe slides into the water pump housing in good shape and installed properly?

Did you replace just the impeller or do a kit? It can be a problem if the cup or plate are grooved.

Just noticed it is not stated the impeller has been replaced, just checked.
How is the impeller being checked? Is it actually being pulled off the shaft?
Is the woodruff key in place or are the slots damaged?
Does the impeller have a permanent set to it (curved so it slides in and out of the cup easy)? It doesn’t have to be cracked or missing chunks to be bad although I would expect a weak stream if it just had a set.

I replaced the impeller with a kit. By checking I meant that the woodruff key was installed correctly. The seal for the water tube appears to be good. I had an extra impeller and tried it also with no luck. I did order a water pump housing this morning. It looks fine but at this point im still at a loss

Not much can go wrong with the housing unless it was run out of the water. It can’t pump water if the housing doesn’t hold the cup in place. I had a Yamaha in here last week where the alignment tabs on the cup were bent flat and the housing was damaged where the tabs are supposed to sit. The water pump had been working but it was a curious find.

Based on the available information, it about has to be a problem with the housing and/or the water pipe seals.

I appreciate it. I might try ordering the water pipe seals and see what that does
