The front seal usually goes first. If you leaked enough AF it could cause the motor to get hot. You'll have to check the camshaft for any groves where the 2 seals seat. If it is worn, you might still leak with new seals. You have to either replace the cam or try a speedi sleeve over the worn area. Not sure if iboats sells these seals or not. I got mine from ebasicpower.com. and 2-speddi sleeves #SKF 99087 from Amazon. Good luck

Yup, sounds like you need the speedie sleeves. If you have not found it yet, head on over to http://www.breezeworks.net they are a bunch of 470 guys. I made a post in there about 2 years ago with detailed micrometer readings of where I put my sleeves to fix the leak. Chances are, the camshaft is grooved and just replacing the seals will not fix the issue. You may want to pick up 2 extra sleeves as a lot of folks get one wrong the first time around. It is a fairly small area of forgiveness. Good luck.

No, I was responding to the drip out of the weep hole at the bottom of the timing cover. I didn't have an oheat issue but I did have to carry extra water with me to fill it up until I fixed the cam shaft.

What size of heat exchanger do you have? If it is the 3", they are known to overheat.

Once you get the term installed, I would pull the end caps off the heat exchanger to make sure it is not clogged up. After you clean it up good, you can run some radiator flush to help clean up the system. If you ahve the 3", you may want to see about getting anothe 3" and a 4" and running both of them at the same time. If you go that route, just do a quick search here. there was a post with the instuctions on how to run the water lines.

You need to wrap your mind around the fact that there is something severely wrong with your cooling system in order for it to overheat to 200 plus degrees as you stated in your previous thread...

Problem could be, but not limited to:

(1) The freshwater coolant level was substantially low

(2) The waterpump(s) not operating properly

(3) Heat exchanger partially blocked

(4) Blown head gasket

(5) Severely out of tune (lean air/fuel mixture, ignition timing, etc)

(6) Thermostat stuck shut, stuck open or possibly missing


Did you ever establish if the waterpump in the outdrive is pumping raw water through the heat exchanger?
