If there was no thermostat in a 1998 50hp Johnson could this cause water in the engine my theory is no thermostat = cold engine = condensation buildup inside the cylinders and crankcase is this correct thinking? this is something I overlooked when purchase this motor there is no thermostat in the housing....

I don’t think that would be your issue - likely a gasket failure or improper torque spec/method on the bolts

New gaskets all torqued to spec with cleaned threads and a drop of oil on bolts when torquing motor alway feels cool to touch

Did you torque them in the right order and then re-torque to full spec after heat cycle?

Yeah torqued in proper order according to manual the head has no warping base gasket has been replaced also the engine when letting the engine idle it should heat up but it always kinda cool if its not thermostats effecting moisture there is most likely a crack or hole somewhere in the block the place i got the engine kit from is sending me a new block but today i noticed the thermostat was missing and from what ive read this can cause the engine to not heat up to operating temp and cause moisture buildup in the crank case.

Your theory doesn't hold water. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, no, the lack of a 'stat won't cause water in the crankcase. It has a leak somewhere.

Yah - the head or crankcase is warped or the gaskets wonky

Its definitely not warping because i put straight edges on both of them as well as perfect surfaces and no gaps or anything so I'm guessing crack or hole in the water jacket back behind the skirt there is an area that i cant see unless i have a bore scope i spoke with a reputable evinrude/johnson mechanic and he was pretty confident its probably a crack or hole that cant be seen.

Out of curiosity, what made you determine that you have water in the crankcase? What symptoms are you seeing? Wet, white, steam cleaned plugs? Or just a no start with wet plugs that may or may not be water?

Engine rebuild/refresh wasn't running properly upon first startups after much tinkering and diagnosing the whole electrical system I pulled plugs and found lots of water droplets on plugs and the pistons this is even after idling in a tank for a while lots of gray watery sludge coming out the exhaust like gas that is mixing with water and not combusting properly then upon pulling the head you could clearly tell there is water getting in somewhere obviously i eliminated water in fuel system and tank its all fresh fuel oil etc before pulling the head. the head gasket was new and torqued properly and the amount of water I'm getting just doesn't seem like a small leak from a wonky gasket even if it was wonky. The kit i used was a used powerhead the was taken apart honed inspected etc but im thinking something got overlooked. Long story short the company i got it from is sending me a new block on their dime
