Im having issues with the motor not wanting to run over 2000. rpm in water. Will run wide open with muffs. Seems like every time there is a load on motor 2000rpm is all it will do. Ive replaced the power pack, fuel pump, rectifier and had carbs rebuilt. Could it be a weak battery?

Might want to do a compression check to see if you blew a cylinder.

i'm not a mechanic at all but i'd do a compression test, spark test, and try new plugs. Also you might want to decarb your engine. I'd do this before spending alot of money on what might work.

Ive replaced the plugs..what does it mean to decarb the motor? Compression is at 120 lbs per cylinder.

Any other ideas? Changed battery and restarted but wont know until motor is in water. Does anyone know if voltage plays a major role as to how the motor will run. Checked spark and that was fine. motor reacted every time a plug wire was removed..

go to the engine faqs page it will tell you how to decarb your motor. you do this to get rid of the carbon deposits that build up over time causing rings and pistons to become "gummed up" and this could cause rings and pistons to stick causing "no top end"

by the way i'm learning at this to and this just what others have let me know. I had the same problem, had carbs rebuilt and decarbed now it runs fine. But, thats not to say this is your problem but decarbing doesn't cost but the price of seafoam and time
