No water coming out exhaust holes in mid section

This Johnson 40hp 86 model has a new water pump kit and water comes out the peer hole. There isn't any water, just exhaust, coming out the two holes towards the top of the midsection.

Most seem to have water coming out. Is it necessary to cook the midsection? I ran a wire up as far as I could go but it didn't help. Thanks.

Probably because you haven't run it long enough for the thermostats to open. Is that the case?
And there won't be a lot of water coming out those holes. Mostly just a mist.

If you are running on muffs, without backpressure, that could also cause the problem,

Mike,

Yes, I had the ears on and never really checked while in the water. A 48 hp pumps a lot of water out, while A 35 just a little. It has a new thermostat. Thanks, I check again.
