No water out of pee hole merc 500

Last winter i bought a merc 500 that wasn't running. Now iv got it running but when it runs for a minute or so there is still no water coming out of the pee hole.

Is this right or wrong, or is it because i let the engine run to short? The engine felt warm during this minute and some parts i could not touch at all. Should i run it longer or doesn't that give it any effect?
The hole is clear so that is fine.

It is a merc 500 from the early sixties.

give us the serial number probably found on transom bracket. then we can help more.

thing it will need. impeller carb rebuild clean. check spark. check compression. gear oil that will probably need to get running good.

what im worried about is u might have a problem with magneo in which a good running one can cost as much 1000 dollars!

do the thing listed above then we check mag.

How's your impeller, probably shot. or change your thermostat.

I cleaned the carbs and did the other stuff. Changing the impeller is the only thing that is left but it still can not get te cover ring of. I think i have to destroye it and order a new one.

The motor did run this afternoon. The serial isn't on the engine anymore.

Is ther a thermostat on this engine? So where is it than? It is a merc 500 from before 1965

oh boy u might have the same motor as me

tell me can u get a picture of ur motor? and to clarify things what color is the motor and where does the exhuast exit on the lower unit. thourgh the prop or the lower unit?

The Complete outboard is black and some parts of the engine are i believe grey and white. Theres a hole in top of the leg where exhaust comes out and also on the botom of the lower unit i believe. I will make a picture of the leg tommorow.

alright its a 1962 newer then. 1961 was the first year of the merc500. it was white. if ur water pump is the same as mine u will need a spanner wrench that will fit the wholes. if not then will need a punch that is a adequate size. use a penetrant.

UPDATE!!!

Today i made a tool for the ring and tried to get it loose, it took me 2 hours and then......... the ring broke! :shock: :shock: :shock:

I removed the broken ring and saw the impeller, it was totaly finished. I now have to find me a new ring, so if anybody has one it is very welcome.
