Gents
Idling along in 24 ft pontoon boat, I shifted in neutral and then reverse to stop when skreetching noise was heard. I immediately shift back in neutral . Motor was still running but no water was coming from the water rooster tail. Exhaust seemed to be jetting out of the rooster tail. I pulled the boat from the water and checked the motor.
I rebuilt the motor a few years back. It seemed to start fine after the incident but no water tail.
Even on land with a water flush on the motor started but no water tail
Disconnected the shift lever, It was securely fastened.
I took the lower end off the motor and rotated the prop in forward and reverse after respectively shifting and heard the squeeking of the rubber impeller against the steel pump liner. I took the pump off and it looked fine
I did not notice any metal shavings or anything else out of the ordinary on the drive shaft but think that because no water was coming out that the drive shaft was not moving.
Does the pump shaft engage into a part that may have stripped on the motor?
