No WOT Unless Choke Pushed In?

First of all I'd like to say that this is an awesome forum, very helpful. I have a 48 hp Evinrude outboard. Took it to the lake, ran fine for about 5 minutes then lost power. The engine will not rev up when throttled unless I push the key in with my knee and hold it there. So the engine will not speed up unless I use my knee to hold the choke in. Spark plugs are new, new fuel. Ran a whole tank of gas with no problem accept having to hold the choke in the whole time. What could the problem be? Thanks.

Is it possible to take the carbs off, clean them and reinstall without tuning them afterwards? Can they be cleaned without removing the jets or any other parts that have to be readjusted? Do the gaskets usually have to be replaced after carbs have been removed or can they be reused?

You have to physically remove the jets and clean them with a copper wire, the rest of the carb can be spotless and if you don't do this it won't work.

Re: No WOT Unless Choke Pushed In?

I took the carbs off, drained the bowls into a clear bottle and found that there was some water in my carbs. I took the carbs apart, cleaned them thoroughly and put them back on. I am going to remove my gas tank and lines and drain them and clean the tank and put it back together. What kind of pipe dope do I need to use on the fuel tank fittings and where can I get it? Thanks again.
