From the spiny dorsal fin to the vertical stripes, that looks more like a perch to me than a bass. Cool either way.

May be an evolutionary blend. Fish ain't too particu,ar where their sperms go....

There is a red eye bass aka coosa bass I've caught a few times at a friend's river down in Huntsville. Looks similar, and at 8 inches was a nice (relative) size and like all stream/river fish fight better than lake fish.

I caught this beast on Saturday morning. She fought for what seemed like 45min, dragging out line repeatedly, running for structure, and extracting every ounce of my energy until I barely won the battle of exhaustion.

I’m lucky to have survived this battle of wills…1757352874127.jpeg

You need to upgrade from AOL dial-up... :D

It was a baby panfish, maybe a green sunfish? It was the end of our final fishing club event for the season and I needed to catch a few panfish to score some quick points. I went over to some docks and pitched a worm on a hook with my ultra light rod. I caught three panfish in the span of a minute....which is the limit for our league. I then went back out to troll for a quick northern pike but got skunked before time ran out.

That little guy still counted for three points though!

After I got the grass cut this morning, I decided to go to the ol' fishin' hole and see what the fish were up to. Apparently, they were at home watching TV.

The only bites I got were from a couple bugs, but I did see the resident swamp lizard.

That creature was wearing camo! Clever girl. 😂

After about 90 minutes, I gave up at that pond and headed over to a "new" one to check out. It's about 1/2 the size of the other one.

Very nice little pond and I'll go back there again, even though I only cast a couple times today. It's got a real "bassy" feel to it.

It is a nice looking pond You guys seem to have such a wide variety of fish that a pond this size would be self supporting and provide edible fish , where as here apart from tiny fish we only got trout , salmon and ( in some places )perch and a lot of our fishing waters rely on being regularly restocked with juvenile fish , we have designated fishing areas for kids only which are totally reliant on restocking . This is all financed from fishing licence fees ( 150 bucks last year Adult ) so I dont mind paying it ..... tell ya what tho I have had a fishing license every year since I had to have one .... so 50 years , and I have only ever seen one ranger and then he never actually asked if I had one .
We are moving into a new era here , now we have licences for resident and overseas fishers , designated "back country " waters ( extra licence req ) and some etiquette re the "fly in " fishers ( like you spend 3 days hiking into remote fisheries only to have some arsehole drop into the head of your area in a chopper , some of them ( both the overseas fisher and the guide/piolet ) can be very aggressive . Some dont realise that even if you spent 5 grand flying in there you might still have to wait your turn .
Im pleased I wasn't born any later 😀

I assume those are $NZ?

I get a State issued Sport Fishing stamp for $50 USD. Not only covers everyone on my boat, also covers my individual license requirements for fish and crabs both on and off the boat.

I also buy a federally issued Highly Migrational Species permit for $24 USD to harvest Tuna, etc.

If I fished freshwater, the license would be $32 for a resident, $12 for Senior

The ponds that I go to are all connected to the Florida Aquifer, a huge underground body of water. Plenty of activity there.

My wife and I went back out to the first pond this evening, closer to sundown. I fished artificials and she used live bait. I got zilch, but she missed two, then finally hooked and landed a nice 3-4 pound largemouth bass. Good times.

3-4 lbs would have to be a good feed for two , if you take it:):) . I would take a 2lb trout if one of my neibours asked for one ( they are mostly older folk but we do trade produce and capture ) but normally I dont keep them as I get other better eating fish ( also traded ).
Nice that your wife likes to accompany you , my best fishing times is when Di and I go together ( nothing to do with the fact we can take twice as many fish 😀 twas a dark day when that penny dropped , a small boat is no place to spend day with a pissed off partner):LOL:

Off topic and late to the show but this reminded me of a guy in a bar one night that for no reason decided to punch the bar keep. The cops showed and it took 7 cops to take this guy down and get him in the car. His last words before they closed the door were Obviously you guys aren’t from Texas.
